STV Appeal 2014

The Tartan Camper Company are pleased to announce that they are providing STV’s  Sean Batty with a Tartan Campervan to help with the STV Appeal for 2014. Scotland’s favourite weatherman will embark on a three day fundraising trip this summer, The Sean Batty Highland Fling, in aid of the STV Appeal.

Ready to go

Sean will travel to Inverness, Fort William and Oban in one of our eye-catching tartan camper van, joined by faithful companion Jock the dog, where he will take on a string of fun and demanding challenges to raise money for children living poverty in Scotland. Along the way, Sean will meet local people, schools and community groups who have all done their bit to raise funds for the STV Appeal, and STV’s cameras will capture all the fun for an Appeal programme later this year.

Sean kicks off his Highland Fling in Inverness on Friday 20 June, before travelling to Fort William on Saturday 21 June to face the toughest challenge of the weekend – climbing the mighty Ben Nevis. The journey ends in Oban on Sunday 22 June where more quirky challenges and fundraising awaits.

Sean said: “This is year four of the STV Appeal and I’m looking forward to yet another challenge, but this time i’m leaving the bike at home. Over the last three years I’ve cycled the Northern Isles, Western Isles and from Glasgow to Edinburgh twice. But after clocking up over 400 miles in the last few years, I thought I would give myself some new challenges. So this year I’m on four wheels in a campervan on tour along the Great Glen from Inverness and finishing up in Oban. This is not just a relaxing drive in the Highlands though; there will be plenty of challenges along the way. Amongst other things I will be climbing Ben Nevis, a big challenge as I’ve not been hill walking since I was a teenager.”

“And staying in the van overnight with Jock the dog will be a challenge in itself, as Jock likes to wake up early for walkies!

Jock’s Tweets

In the past I’ve found the island communities to be so generous and I’m hoping the people of the Highlands will be just as giving. Please get involved if you’re on the route and are organising a fundraising event – I might even have time to stop off and have a cuppa! Jock and I look forward to seeing you very soon, and we hope you can help make 2014 the biggest year yet for the STV Appeal.”

Sean is no stranger to pushing himself out of his comfort zone to raise money for the STV Appeal. In 2011, he took on an ‘Island Hop Challenge’ in the Western Isles, cycling the 130 miles from Stornoway to Lochboisdale. In 2012, Sean took to the saddle again to cycle from Glasgow to Edinburgh, joined by Jock the dog in a trailer, and last year the popular weatherman braved the elements and cycled across a wet and windy Orkney and Shetland, meeting local fundraisers along with way.  In 2013, Sean also took on the cycle from Glasgow to Edinburgh with over 8,000 other cyclists in the freshnlo Pedal for Scotland challenge ride.
